Ok, I've always wanted to write a book on tons of stuff that were really interesting, but unknown. Facts that people should know but don't. I'm sure there is a book on this subject, but I don't know of it. I had planned to cite my sources, but I got too lazy. So basically, this is what I've read:
1) Cigars are equally as bad for you as cigarettes
2) You cannot catch AIDS from mosquitoes
3) The FDA approves that 1 out of every 250 condoms be defective. also, many times the condoms are not transported in their correct temperatures, and the latex goes bad. And if you carry them in your wallet, you're likely to cause it to scratch against itself and tear.
4) Movies don't make any profit at the theaters. The cost of film and distribution is so expensive that all the theater box office sales are lucky to break even. It's usually the video and dvd sales that give the profits. (sources coming)
5) Low tar, filtered, or light cigarettes usually have the same harmful effects as normal cigarettes. the filters are tiny holes at the breathing end where some of the smoke is supposed to escape and not go into the lungs. however, the holes are so close to the tip, that the smoker usually puts their mouth over it, thus closing the filters.
6) The thing in turkey that makes you tired is tryptophan.
7) Common forgotten abbreviations: NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), NASCAR (National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing), CPU (Central Processing Unit), RSVP (répondez, s'il vous plaît)
8) You can save gas mileage by rolling up your windows driving down the highway. Also, 60 mph usually gives the best gas mileage.
9) The proof of alcohol is twice the amount of actual alcohol. So 100 proof is 50% alcohol.
10) Every young fetus starts out female. When testosterone is present, then the female becomes a male.
11) You are 4 times as likely to get into an accident if you drive while talking on your cell phone.
